As an artist-author-illustrator, I’ve always loved art and stories, and it’s a great pleasure to be make my own. I take inspiration from the world around me, and have a particular soft spot for the South West. I'm delighted to live in Busselton and be surrounded by such incredible landscapes and natural beauty, which I love working into my paintings.
I spent several years working as an artist’s assistant in Paris, which is where I learnt classical drawing and fine art techniques. I was lucky enough to be able to study my favourite artists through their work and locations, which had a great impact on my own art. I still have an obsession with French impressionism!
It's wonderful working between two such different mediums as oil and watercolour, and I really enjoy the diversity in style between fine art and illustration. With oils I work 'Alla-Prima', and my illustrations are made using an old-fashioned dipping-nib. I love getting my hands dirty with the classical techniques and mediums.
I'll be working from a pop-up studio hosted inside Tandem Espresso; a small, skandi-styled speciality coffee bar hidden in the centre of Busselton. In the colder months there's a cosy fireplace, as well as house-baked treats and batch brew coffee - which is ideal for me!
Just like at home, I'll have a small set-up showing my usual painting practice, complete with the natural chaos of brushes, palettes and current works. There will be an entire gallery wall, as well as a work station, and retail corner. The joy of being set up in a cafe means I'm able to both work on my art, as well as enjoy a coffee and chat with visitors. You can expect to find me working on current pieces, sipping coffee, either sketching or painting, and I'd be delighted to discuss my process and say hello.
