Watercolour allows me to play with vivid colour while capturing light. I am drawn to detail and love exploring realism with a sense of drama. Favourite subject matter includes rocks, boats, reflections, floats and glass.

Ren Douglas' watercolours reflect a desire to look at the world with eyes which see beyond the surface appearance. Watercolour as a medium allows her to play with intense colour while capturing light. The colour literally floats in water as the light shines through from the white paper. Ren's paintings explore the drama of vivid tones living next to bright light and the endless details that go beyond representational art. Her paintings create a visual narrative that draws the viewer in.
Ren's background as a teacher in Canada, Western Australia and The Northern Territory has helped to develop her love of natural elements found in her watercolours. She has been able to participate in many exhibitions on both sides of the globe. She is a member of the Watercolour Society of WA and has won awards through various exhibitions in Perth, participating in the International Watercolour Exhibition 2024. Ren enjoys sharing her watercolour techniques with others through workshops and demonstrations.
Ren's hope is that viewers of her watercolours will be enticed into each painting and each dramatic story of colour and light.
