I am a UK born, professional artist who is crazy about paint! My art aims to capture that magical feeling you get when you walk through the trees or by the ocean. I am infatuated by the South West of WA, and recently fulfilled a dream to build a garden studio, in the heart of the area that inspires me.
My painting process begins with walking; a daily ritual that makes me feel alive and puts everything into perspective. I use this time to think and gather reference material - memorising and recording seasonal differences and atmospheric variations to the ever-changing landscape. I have a sharp awareness that nothing in nature lasts forever, by my paintings allow me to create something permanent, capturing a place and time that I care about.
I draw upon photos, videos, my memory and imagination, to design compositions that embody the physical aspects of a place and the sense of wonder I felt there.
The paint itself is central to my work. Building layers of expressive and experimental marks, to develop areas of unique visual texture via an ever expanding portfolio of tools and mediums. I like to combine accidental paint effects with more controlled elements. I use both acrylics and oils, often within the same work, exploiting the benefits of each. My ongoing research into depth of field, uses different perspective techniques, seeking to create a sense of spaciousness within each composition.
Previously working as a Marketing Manager in large food companies, I moved to Perth in 2008, juggling being a mum of three, with my Fine Art Degree. I then volunteered as a curator at Fine Art at Hale. My art career highlights include a recent solo exhibition at Gallows Gallery, Perth, entitled Walk of Wonder: Reflections from the Cape to Cape Track.
I sell my work through Perth exhibitions and group shows, via national online galleries and my website shop, in addition to bespoke private commissions. I enjoy nurturing budding artists and sharing painting techniques with fellow creatives through art classes and workshops, which I now host in my garden studio.
I am excited to welcome all art lovers to my studio for the second time, presenting a new collection of paintings inspired by the Cape to Cape Region.
