Figure forming,
The cay surface is built up then refined
Reference lines & points are placed where needed.
Tools softly tapping and carving,
Weaving courage & hope in with the clay slip.
Profiles no more, the rounded form is emerging.
The sculptures poses reflect the themes of strength, courage and ones dreams.
The wings show one wearing their dreams on the outside.
Clay is a wonderful, tactile, material to work with. Stretch, roll out, coil, slab, add, build the profiles then refine. Ones best effort is given to the work
Now its time. Touch it again and pray as the kiln door shuts and the kiln gods take over.
Its always a strange moment when you walk towards the kiln to open the door.
Again you touch the door and pray giving gratitude for the success within.
Sometimes the door won't be opened straight away. The more important the piece the greater the emotions involved. Especially when it is a one off, no mold taken. The object is all there is, no back up plan.
It has to be a success.
Then, the biggest smile that remains for a week.
A brief glimpse inno the life of this Ceramic Sculpter.
