Working with porcelain, I explore the quiet power and beauty of the natural world. The ocean and bushland near my home, together with recent travels, have shaped and inspired my designs.
I am drawn to organic forms — the way the ocean sculpts shells and stones, and the intricate structures of wildflowers, seedpods, and leaves. Animals also find their way into my work, from the birdlife and marine creatures of my local environment.
My work is formed using a potter's wheel then trimmed as finely as possible. The shape of the vessel often dictates the type and style of surface decoration. I use multiple techniques to decorate my work such as carving, etching, sgraffito, and painting. Each piece takes many hours to complete which is then dried slowly over several weeks and fired to 1290 degrees.
The possibilities of using porcelain are endless. Through this timeless medium I hope to share the beauty, light, and grace of nature. To create beautiful works to be treasured and enjoyed.
