She is best known for her contemporary aerial landscapes of turquoise waters and warm sun-drenched rocks sparking fond memories of the Australian landscapes. She explores beauty through nature, narrative and movement. Starting with charcoal she marks the canvas with shapes of the rocks and the coastline until the drawing appears complete.
Using the wet surface of the canvas she then manipulates the acrylic inks to blend and create its own movement and shape.
Mirella was born in Perth, Australia and grew up around the Fremantle area. Although having travelled throughout her younger years she has come to settle on a rural property in Margaret River, Australia.
“I love going to the beach and exploring places with my family. Walking on the ancient rocks that have evolved over millions of years and having a connection with land and country gives me a sense of belonging. Transferring those observations onto the canvas is a fascination for me. Watching the materials dance on the surface and allowing them to meld and yield the unexpected. It's this cathartic process of both reflection and contemplation that I am connecting with”.
She has studied on and off throughout her life but is mainly self-taught. Since moving to Margaret River in 2010 she has taken the time to harness her skills. She embarked on an artistic journey driven by passion and curiosity, experimenting with different mediums, styles, and techniques to develop her own distinct voice.
“Art for me is about moving forward and forever changing your development. Not being stagnant, looking for new possibilities and getting excited about those changes.”
