Cue WA, 650km NE of Perth, was a prosperous gold mining town in the late 1800’s. Dreams came true with the discovery of glittering gold. Fortunes were made and lost.
In the vast scenic landscape of rugged rocks and red dirt, under brilliant blue skies and colossal cloud formations, is where my ‘treasure’ is found - fragments of precious porcelain, glazed pottery, rusty metal, coloured stone and my favourite – glass in all its hues, patterns, shapes and textures. Pieces of History.
As I collected my treasures, I became aware of how these pieces could have been a prized glass vase or bowl, a favourite cup or plate, an adored jug - treasures belonging to the women of that gold rush time. Thoughts of the happiness and the inevitable hardships that these women, especially of this area, must have experienced stayed with me.
My mosaics are created and carefully named with reverence and respect to all those women, that finally their most precious pieces are not lost and forgotten, but have new life.
I am delighted and honoured to be a part of MRROS 2025.
