Artist Statement for the Website

I am a small-batch potter, creating from my home studio—a sea container nestled in my backyard in Broadwater, Busselton. In this practical yet creative space, I craft unique ceramics that balance the sculptural with the functional. Each piece is a personal creation, made with a blend of wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, then fired in my gas kiln on a family property in Vasse.
I work with a variety of stoneware and develop my own glazes from raw materials. I utilise a variety of glaze applications and combinations, producing ceramics that stand out for their individuality and purpose. I aim to capture a sense of movement, texture, and personality in every piece. Clay, for me, is more than a medium—it’s a way of telling stories and expressing something deeply personal. When glazing, I focus on highlighting the nuances of texture and colour, creating work that invites not just the eye, but the touch. My pieces are meant to be experienced physically as much as visually, and this tactile connection is one of the driving forces behind my art.
I sell most of my work directly through social media and my website, but you can also find my ceramics in Busselton at the Old Courthouse Complex, and in Bunbury at The Red Mill Store. Both spaces focus on showcasing local artisans in historic buildings, making them the perfect home for my pieces.
For the past three years, I’ve had the pleasure of participating in Margaret River Region Open Studios. It’s been an incredible experience sharing my work with visitors and chatting about all things clay. These connections have sparked deep appreciation and lasting relationships with ceramic enthusiasts locally and across Australia.
I’d love to invite you into my home studio during this event. I’m thrilled to share new works, and I can’t wait for you to experience my updated space. There’s nothing quite like the joy of meeting fellow art lovers, diving into the creative process, and passing my work directly from my hands to yours.

Artist Statement for the Event Guide

I make functional ceramics using a range of stoneware and unique handmade glazes. My work is made using hand building and wheel throwing techniques and is purposely designed to be colourful, textural, welcoming, and tactile.

Studio Details

Briefly describe your studio space (is it in your home, shed, farm etc, is it filled with light, is it tiny or cavernous?) & can you provide a taste of what visitors will see and experience there?

My sea container studio is located at the bottom of my garden. Visitors can walk through a large open gate along a crushed limestone driveway which passes by a front courtyard garden, established trees, fence lined gardens and large pots filled with cacti. This leads to a recycled brick courtyard where people can mingle and view my hanging ceramic planters displayed outside my studio which is flanked by large pots of bamboo. The back doors of my studio opens completely, and I have a large glass sliding door, and sash window for natural lighting. The doors provide breezeways and walk throughs for visitors to enter and exit my space. The undercover alfresco near the back of the house is where I will have my gallery set up using vintage boxes, cane shelves and pine pallet tables. In this way people can amble between the two areas and have space to talk about the art as well as to touch and feel the ceramics. I truly believe ‘every piece finds it’s person’, so in this space there is no pressure to purchase; just an enjoyment of the tactile ceramics, and the space we are connecting in.

Describe the kind of interactive experience you may provide to visitors. E.g. are you demonstrating your art practice?

I plan to be throwing a large coil and throw piece on the wheel in my studio which can be covered with plastic to ensure the integrity of the piece remains when meeting and greeting visitors.

I will have clay on my wedging table for people to touch and play with imprinted bisqueware.

Discussion of the pottery process will be accompanied by pieces in a range of forms, leather hard, bisqued and of course, the finished products.
