Artist Statement for the Website

Jacob is a ceramics artist who has been working with clay for over 6 years. After years of learning and refining the craft, Jacob has now developed his body of work and it will be on display for this year's open studios. Jacobs work is inspired by his love for the ocean, and the land here in the South West. As well as the big and the small details in the vast landscapes. You can see these elements in Jacobs work from the flowy waves in the form of his work, to the glazes which represent the white sandy beaches of Meelup, to the lush green forest of Boranup. Buying a piece of Jacobs work isn't just a piece of pottery, it is a piece of the South West. Jacob focuses on Functional ceramics, mainly bowls and cups. However For this event Jacob is preparing a range of more "one off" unique pieces, such as platters, vases, jars and teapots.

In 2024 Jacob moved into his first proper studio space in Cowaramup, which he now works from full time. Jacobs small yet cozy 150m2 studio space houses a lesson workshop space, a kiln, glazing areas, work benches and a gallery. Along with creating his own work Jacob now likes to spend a lot off his time teaching the craft to others and passing on his skills, Jacob will be hosting a number of workshops and classes throughout open studios which can be booked though his website.

Artist Statement for the Event Guide

Jacob is a functional ceramics artist whose work takes inspiration from home, Margaret River WA. Jacobs work combines durability, functionality and abstractness. While his glazes represent the colours of the land, trees and sea.
