Being born in the manager’s cabin at Wellington Mills Cottages might explain Sasha’s passionate connection to the bush-land of the South West. Her first breath being the May mossy soils and eucalyptus leaves of the Jarrah forests that hug perimeter of the Forester settlement built in 1920. Her parents, a second generation South Australian Farmer and an Englishwoman of Jewish heritage from Kent. Mum a textile designer hand-knitting colourful jumpers she sold in SW Galleries. After a three-month vipassana retreat in Boston USA they both decided to put down roots in WA. They managed the Wellington Mills cottages for a time before moving back to their small stone fruit orchard near Donnybrook. As the family grew they all moved to Bunbury but the early years of her country upbringing left a mark that would ultimately bring Sasha back home to the bush.

When she fled the city after her son was born it was the cosy farming town of Balingup that stole her heart. Everything reminded her of earliest memories of home. The grassy fields and fruiting orchards, the rich textiles in people’s homes, the undercurrent of spirituality left by the seekers of the 70s, the smell of the wind coming out of the bush and the moo of cows in the Valley. Becoming a full-time single mum in her teens came with its challenges so a simple existence in the Valley was music to her ears.

Now that her son is eight years old her career as an Artist is coming to the fore. Sasha moved her small family to the coastal town of Margaret River where her Mum and Stepdad have been farming Waterlily and Lotus flowers for the last 20 years.

Sasha’s inspiration comes from her immediate environment- her upbringing in the Southwest that feeds an ever growing love for the natural world and the people around her committed to protecting it. She is constantly exploring new ideas and ways of applying her skills to canvas and paper. Acrylics, water colour, graphite pencil, calligraphy, ink, pen, gold leaf and oil paint all make the toolkit of media in her home studio, for now...

Sasha's hope is that her Art will foster a reverence for nature, provide insight into the beauty of the Southwest and inspire individual action towards a kinder and more eco-centric world. Only at the start of her career, Sasha is one to keep your eye on.
