Melanie Hume

  • Painting

I was one of the artists that worked on the mural behind the Busselton Woolworths shop. The mural depicts the ocean and the connection between the aboriginal people and the Busselton community. The wall has different symbols in the animals and tells different stories.

Kaya,
My name is Melanie Hume, and I am a noongar woman that lives in Busselton.
I have lived in Busselton for majority of my life. I have both birth and raise all four of my children, my two grandchildren have been born here too. I have a close relationship with my family that live in the area as well as my mother.
The type of artwork that I paint is traditional dot painting with aboriginal symbols that tells stories of what the painting means and symbolizes. Much of my artwork is inspired by the ocean, from the animals to the flowing currents.
