I have participated in the Open Studio event for ten years, showcasing my orchid, banksia and wildflower designs made from photographic montages and digital drawings using Photoshop.
These are a little bit of nature on homewares and wearable art. They have been presented on a variety of media; prints on museum quality rag papers and fabric tote bags, shoulder bags, bright throw cushions, silky scarves and a variety of clothing, skirts, tops and dresses.
In 2025, I will still have my wildflower designs as in previous open studios, but also a few new paintings in the mix as well.
I have joined an online painting group called Art of Flow and have been enjoying doing different projects with them. I now have two years’ worth of paintings to put on display.
When I create my painting art pieces I see colours, shapes and textures from nature. I enjoy using mixed media, a little bit of tissue collage, gel pens, charcoal and acrylic paints. I love to paint strong archetypal women and characters from stories and Celtic myths. As well as links to our past, our ancestors and the feminine Goddess. I like to use colours from nature, the bush, earthy oranges, dark crimson reds, kahki greens, turquoise and soft blues. I play with the textures and shapes from the natural world around me. Flower designs and patterns that you see. Spirals, the moon and stars, native plants and animals.
When I create it makes me feel happy. I love being able to make new things. I still love to make sculptures with clay. I have made a sculpture garden in my front yard with my small-scale ceramic women sculptures.
I’m a feminist and think about women’s rights. Mostly I try to express myself in a positive way. If not, I cloak it in symbolism so that the viewer has to work it out for themselves.
