I’m largely a self taught artist having only been taught the basics through school. I had a few works exhibited in competitions back in NZ during my high school years and it always was a true passion, so as I moved forward through life I tried where possible to take classes ( mainly life drawing ) where ever in the world I happened to be living and working at the time.
I started in a pretty creative career in floristry and find this influences my drawing and paintings still to this day.
Time spent working in luxury spas and traveling around the world added to my inspirations, (as well as a bit of an obsession with birds!)
I try to begin with a real life situations where possible usually along with some photo references and then, from there, extend this to a sketch which will lay down the start of my ideas. The painting then comes from a combination of drawing and lots of layers of acrylic, sometimes finished with more drawing over top with ink and pencils usually done on paper, canvas or wood panels. My aim hopefully is to bring them to life, but with an almost child like playful quality.
You’ll find me sketching in the garden during open studios and perhaps making little tiny flower bunches for you to take home too!
