Trish’s artistic practice is grounded in immersion in the natural world, a restorative counterbalance to the intensity of her work in education. Time spent among coastal landscapes, shifting light, and organic forms becomes both inspiration and process. Through this connection, her work emerges as an expression of serenity—an offering of calm and stillness that reflects the essential role of nature in sustaining wellbeing. Each piece carries a quiet, meditative quality, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect.
Her visual language is defined by intuitive mark-making, including fluid brushstrokes and her signature squiggles, which create movement and rhythm across the surface. These gestures reward both intimate viewing and distant observation, revealing layers of detail, texture, and energy. The resulting works are designed not only to engage the eye but also to transform interior spaces, bringing a sense of tranquility, warmth, and gentle curiosity into the homes of collectors.
Working across oils, acrylics, and mixed media, Trish draws deeply from her explorations of land and sea. Her paintings are characterised by luminous, semi-vibrant palettes that echo the changing colours of ocean depths, coastal skies, and sunlit horizons. This sensitivity to light extends into her textile practice, where she creates luxurious shibori-dyed silk scarves. These pieces capture the fluid interplay of water and light, rendered in rich oceanic blues and glowing sunset hues, offering a wearable extension of her visual world.
Trish’s multidisciplinary approach also encompasses sculptural and tactile forms. She handcrafts beach-inspired rope baskets from natural fibres, bound with silk and merino twine and often embellished with beads and found coastal materials. Her shell-imprinted ceramic bowls preserve the textures and patterns of the shoreline, while her dynamic wire sculptures incorporate found objects, reflecting both fragility and resilience within natural systems. Across these forms, recurring motifs—shells, stingrays, birds, and trees—sit alongside expansive, intricately detailed landscapes, creating a cohesive yet diverse body of work.
Located in a hidden studio space in central Dunsborough, Trish’s practice is deeply connected to the rhythms of a laid-back coastal lifestyle. With over thirty years of experience in art education and a lifelong affinity for the beach, her work reflects both technical skill and personal narrative.
