I love creating something beautiful. Whether it be in the garden, at the sewing machine or with a paper and pencil, I am constantly needing a creative outlet.
I love capturing the human figure and always remember life drawing as my favourite subject 26 years ago when I studied at Adelaide Central School of Art. I will always be grateful for what I learnt when I was so young. The love of people lead to portrait commissions and over the years that has evolved into, jewellery making, sewing bags and picnic rugs, t-shirt designs, mandalas, and several exhibitions one with my daughter and uncle in SA on our love for birds.
I am inspired by nature, music and life’s experiences. I was drawn to this coast through my love of surfing and I have been working in that industry for 23 years. The ease and the passion for this place and its coast has challenged my attempts to do art full time. It’s taken a significant event for me to realise all I want to do is be creative in my new studio and see where it takes me.
In the second year of my MRROS experience I wanted to go back to basics. I’ve pulled out different mediums and created a gratitude series using inks and charcoal and gold leafing. These works remind me of what I did in my 20’s but they have a more refined perception. I also want to do more figurative works… line drawings, still life, and get out the oils. I will have t-shirts again as I loved that aspect last year and absolutely love seeing people wearing them and cherishing them.
I am looking forward my second year of this event and meeting the great people that come through.
