This body of work is an ode to the last 2 years. Living in the SW, rewilding a property and loving my home alongside Geographe bay.
My work begins intuitively. Plein air intrinsic to my making. Encased in the environment, drawing and watercolour become its extension. I apply marks with sticks and textured plant matter. I am interested in space, inviting the viewer in, letting my marks breathe on the page and allowing the viewer time to contemplate.
Juxtaposing abstraction with the intricacies of microstudy. I use my skills in observational drawing to cast the spotlight on the subtleties of the subject, their complexities and details.
I’ve enjoyed discovering the challenges of watercolour, limiting my palette, minimalizing my marks, including ink for vibrancy and playing with new ways to express myself, adding landscape to my subject matter.
With a passion for all plants is a given. I am interested in the unspoilt details of the natural world, the subtilties, warts and all. My work often deals with unsung heroes. As biodiversity diminishes, I crave wilderness, and my haven from the world, home. The survival, grit and resilience of endemic plants. The love and sheer joy a home garden provides always fascinate me and provide inspiration for my work.
