Nature provides the inspiration that I draw from, expanding on the elements to create the essence of the subject matter. Light colour and texture live exuberantly in my Artistic world.
I have lived and worked in the Kimberley Region for some 20 years, immersing myself in its vibrant landscape, with inspiration being drawn from the Red Escarpments, Boab Trees, Aqua water, and the Pindan sands.
I look for the light and magic that exists in these areas, as my paintings are not replicas of what I see, but more the "essence of the landscape" that I use to inspire the viewer and perhaps instill some excitement ,and a desire to experience the wonders that are on offer, to those who would choose to venture out themselves.
My Vasse Studio is nestled into a stand of trees on 6 acres, where I feel nourished, and inspired to continue my artistic journey in this wonderful new environment.
This is a different landscape, that offers new challenges to interpret the light, colour
and textures, thus also a need to change my pallet accordingly.
The bold reds, and Cobalt blue skies of the Kimberley are replaced with the layering of blue greys, green greys and turquoise coloured waters, along with white sand dunes
I am an Australian Landscape painter who's artworks are composed of different styles of painting
which include realism, impressionism, and a degree of abstraction.
The mediums I like to use are mostly quality acrylic paints on either Arches French rag paper orstretched canvases.
The wonderful textural quality of these paints allows for some structure when needed.
Strong pigments in these paints allow for thinning as washes giving the opportunity to create translucency as required.
Charcoal, a humble medium with all its possibilities, is a favorite and surprisingly versatile which allows me to create exciting artwork, intimate or dramatic, permitting the exploration and imagination to prevail.
As an Artist , I am a visual person, and as such, being immersed is not only an advantage but I guess the essence of my being, so the mor experiences I am exposed to the more alive I feel and the creativity grows.
For me the field trips, the life experiences, the frustrations
and the world of creativety are part of the journey that I am on and forever thankful for.
