Nature and life are the inspirations that i draw from, expanding on these elements to create the essenc e of the subject matter.
I have worked and lived in the kimberley region for 20 years. during this time immersing myself in in it's vibrant landscape, inspiration drawn from red escarpments and boab trees.
The paintings are not exact replicas of the area I look for the magiic and the light, i try to inspire the viewer to sense "the essence of the landscape".
I have now set up my Vasse studio which lives nestled into the stand of trees on 6 acres here i feel nourished and inspired. It's a different landscape which has offered new challenges, the bold reds and cobots are replaced with the layering of blue greens, grey greensand turquoise waters.
I am an australian landscape painter, the mediums I like to use are mostly acrylic paints on canvas or Arches rag paper. The textural quality of these paints allows for some structure. the strong pigments of acrylics can also be used as thin washes extending the paint in combination with the paint mediums , more like a wash tequnique offering a translucency.
The humble charcoal medium with all it's possibilities is a favorite,it is surprisingly versatile ,the charcoal allows me to create exciting artwork often intimate or dramaticallowing the exploration and the imagination to pervail.
As an artist I am a visual person and as such being immersed in nature is not only an advantage but the essence of my being ,so the more i can travel the more experiences i am exposed to then the more alive i feel and the faster my creativity grows. for me the field trips , life experiences and the world of creativity are all part of the journey that i am ion and love.
