Hello, I’m Amanda Robertson a Mosaic Artist and the founder of Great Idea Mosaics, I have over the past 15years never stopped learning the art of Mosaicking. There are many forms of mosaicking from using recycled materials – plates dishes cups, old tiles, disregarded jewellery & beads, pebbles, and stones, to working with ceramic or glass. As an artist I prefer to work with glass because of the infinite variations in colours which are inspirational. Along the way I have enjoyed sharing my passion with others whether it be through the workplace holding art classes, with persons with disabilities ranging from intellectual, mental, physical or with Neurological conditions, sometimes with a bunch of friends at home and most recently running workshops and mosaic classes on a professional level. To watch people engage in an art project and to see the benefits of the interaction with others, the enjoyment and self-worth evolving as participants create amazing art works in a safe environment, this keeps me involved and inspires me in creating new ideas. On a more personal level, my inspiration to create and design comes from my garden, our beautiful southwest climate with its amazing variations in colour, and those quiet times at night when I should be sleeping. I’m a practical person who needs to be always creating something, if it’s cooking a delicious meal, gardening, mosaicking for myself or for others to enjoy.
