Artist Statement for the Website

For as long as I can remember, I've been drawn to the creative world, finding inspiration in various forms of art. Although I dabbled in art during my younger years, it wasn't until later in life that I fully embraced my artistic journey.
We made the life-changing decision to relocate to the breathtaking Margaret River Region. This move prompted me to rekindle my passion for art, picking up where I left off after art school in my youth.
The natural beauty that surrounds me in this amazing place I now call home serves as a constant source of inspiration. Drawing from the serene landscapes and amazing seascapes of the region, I embarked on a journey of artistic exploration and self-discovery. Over the years, I've experienced success in my artistic endeavors, continually pushing the boundaries of my creativity and skill. Collaborating with the local art gallery and participating in the prestigious MRROS (Margaret River Region Open Studios) have been instrumental in establishing my name as an artist in the region. Now entering my third year in the MRROS event, I'm thrilled to see how my work continues to evolve and surprise my clients.
My chosen medium, archival acrylic inks, captivates me with its fluid nature, allowing my artworks to be created with movement and soft edges. While acrylic inks remain my primary medium, I'm not afraid to experiment with other materials to enhance my artistic expression.
This year, I've delved into textural artworks using modelling paste, salt, and various layering techniques, adding depth and dimension to my pieces. My preferred canvas is aluminium artboards, which provide a smooth surface ideal for showcasing the vibrancy of acrylic inks. These artworks can be sealed with a gloss or matte finish, ensuring their longevity and durability.
As a visual artist, I find inspiration in researching and visualizing my subjects before bringing them to life on my art boards . This approach allows me to create impressions rather than carbon copies, infusing each artwork with a unique energy and essence. Furthermore, I've made a conscious decision not to produce prints of my works, ensuring that each collector owns an original piece of art with no replicas in existence. My artworks are archival and lightfast, designed to retain their vibrancy for generations to come.
I would like to invite you into my home for a visual experience for all to enjoy.

Studio Details

Briefly describe your studio space (is it in your home, shed, farm etc, is it filled with light, is it tiny or cavernous?) & can you provide a taste of what visitors will see and experience there?

My art studio is situated at the rear of my home where I create most of my smaller pieces of art. For the larger paintings, I generally move into the garage to finish these off.
In the main house, I generally showcase most of the art that I have created artfully displaying them on the walls in the middle living area of our home and on easels. The middle living area of the house generally operates as a gallery during the open studios event. However, the rear studio is quite functional and contains all the inks and other accessories that I use to create my masterpieces. Previous works of art that I have not sold in previous years, are also available in this rear studio and can be purchased during the open studios event.
The garage area is where my painting boards and frames are professionally made. This assists me having an inhouse artboard/framer in keeping up with a regular supply when I creating my works of art.
Access to the rear studio is generally through the main entrance of the house, however, it can also be accessed via the lane at the rear of the property.

Describe the kind of interactive experience you may provide to visitors. E.g. are you demonstrating your art practice?

During the hours I will be open Margaret River Region Open Studios event I will be working on a piece of art as to show my process or part thereof. I am always available to discuss my artwork and answer questions about my inspiration, materials and processes.

Are you sharing a studio with another artist? No
