Code of Conduct for MRROS event

Margaret River Region Open Studios is a not-for-profit organisation that provides marketing for a 16-day event to promote artists at all stages of their career living between Busselton and Augusta and west of Sues Road.

As a participant in the 2024 MRROS event, you are expected to show respect and courtesy to others. All interactions should be professional regardless of platform: either online or in-person. In order to foster a positive and professional event, we ask you to confirm your agreement to our Code of Conduct.

ABOUT YOUR ART PRACTICE

• Glass

I began working with glass 19 years ago, after enjoying a successful 30 year career as a potter but after shoulder surgery I was taken in a totally different area working with glass has been a wonderful experience for me and I find great satisfaction in exploring Its endless possibilities. Sometimes I feel as though I'm transported to another dimension when working with glass and was drawn to the luminosity of the glass which I couldn't achieve with pottery.

My fused glass pieces are constantly evolving with the use of colour, design, a variety of techniques and materials. I use very high quality glass which sheets that are manufactured in USA and more recently in Mexico, I cut the glass and create the designs it is then fused in a glass firing kiln. Over the years I have participated in many courses and gained extensive knowledge from many talented Glass Artists and lecturers from USA, Europe & Australia. I create pieces that are not only beautiful but also technically sound. I'm passionate about my work and can't wait to see where this journey takes me next.

The inspiration for my work is derived from the magnificent colours around Australia and the wonderful scenic landscapes from the tropics to the deep red of the Kimberley and Uluru. I have always loved working with colour and the beautiful glass I use brings it to life, now that I am living in Busselton much of my work will be inspired by the lovely beaches & Southwest scenery and the possibilities are endless. My technique is to experiment & create something new each time, I don't like duplication and some of my work is quite ethereal which I often describe as painting with glass.
I use a variety of glass powders, frits etc also other elements such as gold silver & copper leaf which adds to the intrigue.

Art glass is a wonderful medium in the way it flows like molten lava when the desired temperature is reached and can be manipulated while in a very hot liquid state then cooled slowly to form beautiful pieces.

I love creating art by cutting and fusing my beautiful glass and shape elegant pieces that capture light & colour, each piece tells a story and brings and brings beauty
into everyday life.

Uploading your images

The process has changed a little this year;

Step 1 – Add 1 image that best represents your work for the printed Event Guide

Step 2 – Add an additional 9 artwork images and studio portraits for our marketing team

Step 3 – Add up to 10 images for your website listing – they can be the same or different to the images above

Step 4 – Add one main image for your website listing.

Each image must be 300dpi, between 2.5MB and 5MB, and formatted as a jpeg file.

Re-name all files to include your name, artwork title, year created, medium and size before uploading e.g., Jane Doe_Wild Seascapes_2018_Oil on canvas_10x10cm.

Please ensure the filenames contain only alphanumeric characters, underscores or hyphens. Special characters such as punctuation will cause the upload to fail.

Please add a photographer credit to the file name if required by the photographer.

(Note: we love to use smiling, welcoming studio portraits to promote MRROS on social media)

Studio Details

Nestled within the confines of a spacious shed lies my sanctuary where creativity flourishes amidst controlled chaos. here 2 kilns stand along with a substantial work bench while ample shelving houses an array of glass sheets and a variety of tools. Amongst This organized disorder typical of a creative mind I find solace and inspiration accompanied by the dulcet tones of my favorite music.

Adjacent to this haven there is a charming outdoor gabled patio destined to showcase my work during the September Open Studios, It's tranquil ambiance adorned with greenery and some relaxing seating areas fosters a sense of peace & connection with nature. A majestic Peppermint tree stands between the studio & patio further enhancing the serenity of the space.
Together the humble "shed " and the outdoor display epitomise the heart of my creative journey where craftsmanship converges with expression and the realm of creativity knows no limits.
after moving from a 3 acre property with a beautiful studio & gallery this is a very big but lovely change, this is where i'm meant to be.

The total fee for participating in the Open Studios Event in 2023 is $935 including GST, and made up as follows:

• Membership renewal $132
• Participation fee $803, includes compulsory Public Liability Insurance

Full payment is required upfront by credit or debit card.
