Artist Statement for the Website | “We spend much of our lives seeing without observing” - Andy Warhol I create art to capture the exquisite beauty I observe in our natural world, sharing the glorious minutiae in the everyday that is often obscured and overlooked. If it makes my heart sing then I’ll paint it. I paint in a style of Realism, specifically Nature Realism. My work is detailed and I sometimes choose to have a muted or plain background so that there is no distraction from the unique characteristics of the subject. My mission is to let the viewer feel the beauty that I see. My medium in the past has been oils but I have in recent years embraced acrylics. My lifetime love of animals and nature shows in my subject matter- an array of animals each with their own unique personality captured in my work. My pieces include animals from our wildlife in Australia - birds, bees, roos, numbats, lizards and anything that catches my eye and stirs my soul. Researching my subjects is part of the fun of creating paintings. A stroll through the bush, in the garden, along the beach and at the park always makes me stop in wonder as I watch the bees at work pollinating, the birds busying themselves in the branches and the seagulls resting or flying high. |
Artist Statement for the Event Guide | My new works of art this year relate to water, specifically the ocean. I paint to capture the exquisite beauty I observe in the natural world and the ocean is the perfect candidate. |

Briefly describe your studio space (is it in your home, shed, farm etc, is it filled with light, is it tiny or cavernous?) & can you provide a taste of what visitors will see and experience there? | My studio is incorporated into my large casual semi outdoors entertainment area at the rear of the house and the entry is via the carport. The ambience in this area is earthy, casual, with some timber walls and a feature corrugated iron wall along with a pot belly stove. The style is quite eclectic but welcoming. It’s a space that promotes relaxation and creativity. |
Describe the kind of interactive experience you may provide to visitors. E.g. are you demonstrating your art practice? | I will have works in progress and where possible I will demonstrate my art practice. I will have my art journals available view. |
Are you sharing a studio with another artist? | No |
