Artist Statement for the Website

A little bit about myself...
I have always been artistic and come from quite a creative family. After finishing high school in Busselton WA I studied a B.A. in Visual Arts majoring in textiles and minoring in photography at Edith Cowan University Perth. My first passion however was dance and I went on to own and run the Dunsborough School of Dance for fourteen years. That business enabled me to fulfill many of my creative desires, including costume design and manufacture, as well as set design and construction. I organised big concerts thus furthering my confidence and skills as a business person. Painting for me was more of a hobby during those years, but I was able to do some commission pieces for family and friends and had opportunities to exhibit in local wineries and restaurants. In the early days, I was prepared to have a go at painting just about any subject which I think helped me to develop my skills. It was in 2020 that I decided to become a professional artist and I have not looked back. My work has been selected in various Art Awards and Exhibitions, which has given me some much-needed confidence in the highly competitive art world.

Currently, my medium of choice is acrylic paint but I am dabbling with H2O oils and I am becoming known internationally for portraying the beautiful Australian landscape and coastline in a realistic and sometimes impressionistic style. On my website you can view my gallery page showing examples of my artwork done over some thirty years, and perhaps you will see evidence of my growth.

Some of my available paintings and prints can be viewed at Tonic by the bay restaurant in Broadwater Busselton and Bay Furniture and Design in Dunsborough. Also if you like my style and want to commission a piece, please contact me to discuss options.

Artist Statement for the Event Guide

Gina has lived and worked in the Margaret River Region since 1986. Her seascape and landscape paintings are realistic and give a slightly unique perspective of our beautiful region.

Studio Details

Briefly describe your studio space (is it in your home, shed, farm etc, is it filled with light, is it tiny or cavernous?) & can you provide a taste of what visitors will see and experience there?

For the MRROS my new friend and fellow artist Kevin Singer @inji.sculptures has kindly invited me to join him at his studio and gallery in Injidup. I usually work from my home in Busselton and it unfortunately has not been suitable for participation in MRROS. My home studio is available to customers by an appointment only. This year I am excited to have an opportunity to participate in the MRROS with the offer of a studio that I can use at the Kevin's property, 20 House Glen, Injidup. The studio has ample space for me to work in and display my paintings, cards and prints etc. There is a kitchen and a toilet, plenty of room for parking and is surrounded by beautiful bushland. Many of my paintings are inspired by the Injidup coastline and have proven popular with tourists and locals alike. Kevin and I hope that by combining our art practice in this open studios will bring in more customers.

Describe the kind of interactive experience you may provide to visitors. E.g. are you demonstrating your art practice?

I will have several pieces in progress at their different stages so that the public can get a glimpse of my process. I am available to quote on potential commission work and am happy to answer any questions regarding my work.

Are you sharing a studio with another artist?Yes
If yes – who are you sharing with?Kevin Singer @inji.sculptures
