Welcome to the Seasaltware Ceramics studio. This years feature piece is "Surfing the Capes" a 66-piece white sculptural vase and bowl installation including a locally sourced feldspar and sandy porcelain slipped surface.
Celebrating all of the surf breaks between Cape Naturalist and Cape Leeuwin, each piece has a handwritten surf break name on the base. The pieces are inspired by or limestone coast, hot summer days, and salty sea spray. From crunchy limestone tracks that lead down to the sea to the pure white sand underfoot on the shoreline.
For this years Open Studios event, new wares will be released! These include: coffee cups, mini tube vases, moonjars, porcelain jewellery, bowls wine cups, incense holders and wall hangings. Pieces are mostly highfired stoneware and showing relaxed soft coastal colours and include local materials such as ash, sands, clays, granite and feldspar. My work is very much connected to the natural environment, particularly the ocean, forrest and river here in Margaret River.
Join me daily for a drop in clay making sessions. This year you can make a pinch pots or a mini kirinuk vase. I'll glaze and fire this for you, ready for pick up or I can also post it to you. No set times or bookings required.
Learn about wild clay processing and local minerals that I incorporate into my works. I have several kilns to take a look at: a hand built raku kiln, wood kiln, barrel kiln and regular electric kiln. I also do some alternative firings such as barrel and obvara.
Enjoy your visit with a tea or coffee from a handmade mug and a wander around to look at the wares on display, the studio is close to the Margaret River Main street and is surrounded by the Jarrah and Marri forrest. I look forward to meeting you.
