I am an artist based in Margaret River, Western Australia, where I have lived for the past 16 years. The natural beauty of the region continues to shape and inspire my creative practice.
Alongside my artistic journey, I have spent 28 years as a primary school teacher, working both in the classroom and as an art specialist. Teaching has deeply influenced my approach to creativity. Engaging with children—their curiosity, openness, and fearless self-expression—has reinforced the importance of play, experimentation, and authenticity in artmaking. Their perspectives continue to inspire my own practice, grounding it in a belief that creativity is innate and should be nurtured throughout life.
This passion for sharing art led me to establish Indigo Art – Studio for Kids, a space where imagination and creative confidence are encouraged to flourish. Working from my home studio, I have created an environment where learning and play intersect, allowing both my students and myself to explore artistic expression freely. This space reflects my philosophy that art is not only about outcome, but about process, discovery, and connection.
While oil painting remains central to my practice, I continue to explore acrylics and fluid mediums, drawn to their balance of control and unpredictability. Through layering and movement, I seek to create works that embody both structure and spontaneity—echoing the rhythms and energy of the natural world.
Much of my inspiration comes from observing how light interacts with the ocean—how it shifts, refracts, and dances across the water’s surface. I am particularly drawn to the way light filters through water and reflects upon marine life, creating fleeting patterns of shimmer, movement, and depth. These moments inform my use of colour, layering, and texture, as I work to capture a sense of fluidity, immersion, and quiet luminosity. The ocean becomes both subject and metaphor, reflecting change, rhythm, and the interconnectedness of life.
At the heart of my practice is a commitment to ongoing learning and exploration. I enjoy experimenting with materials and processes, allowing each piece to evolve naturally. Ultimately, my work invites viewers to connect with the beauty of the natural world and Margaret River’s diverse coastal landscapes.
