Based in Yallingup, I create functional art that bridges thoughtful design with organic craftsmanship, integrating my technical skills to produce unique jewellery, timber woodcraft and digital art. My journey as an artist has been an evolving pursuit, woven throughout a career as an IT consultant and software engineer. For me, creativity and resourcefulness link both environments, as I employ the same problem-solving whether Iโ€™m designing a solution for a client, developing software or working on a new piece of art.
Early in my career, I was immersed in highly technical visual development - focusing on interactive graphics and performance - before transitioning into the less complex, but fast-paced world of London finance. Today, based out of Yallingup, I have integrated those technical skills with my creative side, turning what was once a hobby into an all-consuming passion.
The inspiration for my jewellery is local flora and fauna. Interestingly, my first pieces were created as something else entirely, but feedback suggested they would make great earrings. Whoโ€™s to know what leads where? My designs begin with an idea that I sit on and allow to take form. I then sketch out concept drawings and use them as reference material for sculpting, which I undertake using various 3D CAD modelling tools. While I initially sculpted these models directly to their final form, I now tend to create the model in the pose I want and then use software I developed to manipulate the orientation and perspective, giving me precise control over form and proportion.
In my workshop, making jewellery boxes is where my art truly began. As interest grew, I began crafting boxes to hold everything from jewellery to coins, medals and other keepsakes. My personal favourites are my magnetic ring cases. Handcrafted from local timbers that are rich in colour, texture, and character, each piece is unique - a timeless creation designed to hold that which is truly precious.
My journey into painting began more as an experiment than a creative pursuit, starting when I invested in a digital drawing tablet to improve the detail of my sculpting. This opened a new world of digital painting, allowing me to create a collection that naturally complements my jewellery and woodcraft. Just like my physical pieces, the inspiration for my art comes from my natural surroundings but with a twist.
I invite you to visit my studio to see how these different worlds converge.
