A lifelong interest in birds combined with an inherent love of painting and drawing eventually led Chris to becoming a dedicated wildlife artist. The development of skills came with years of persistence aided through the study of painting techniques and pictorial compositions created by many different artists around the world. Chris has found that a wildlife artist also needs skills in landscape and botanical art.
Every painting is a unique composition featuring both native birds and flora: “I love to incorporate fascinating and colourful Western Australian plants into each picture”. With the assistance of digital photography, fine details and striking poses can now be confidently incorporated into the art works. In recent years the bird paintings have been predominantly of Western Australia birds- particularly the three species of black cockatoos, numerous inland parrots and small bush birds including the lovable Fairy-wrens.
Being based in Margaret River Western Australia for several years has enabled the establishment of a permanent studio surrounded by native plants with lots of native birds to watch. Chris’s artworks and extensive range of prints are available through Galleries in WA including Aspects of Kings Park and locally at Mukau Gallery, Cowaramup.
