Chloe Wilder’s journey from the depths of cetacean research to the vibrant world of artistry is a testament to the transformative power of passion and discovery. She dedicated her early career to unraveling the mysteries of marine life, immersing herself in the study of cetaceans and the ecosystems they inhabit. It was during remote fieldwork in the rugged landscapes of the Kimberly region, she found solace in painting old road signs, transforming weathered symbols of human presence into vibrant expressions of creativity.
Following her heart's calling, Wilder pursued a new path, enrolling in the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) to formally study the craft of visual expression. Her focus on the female portrait emerged as a means to delve deeper into the intricate connection between artist and muse, seeking to unravel the layers of intimacy and understanding that lie at the heart of creative expression. Through her portraits, Wilder endeavors to capture the essence of feminine energy, exploring the ways in which women mirror the nurturing and formidable forces of Mother Nature herself.
Wilder’s artistic practice extends beyond the confines of traditional mediums, embracing a multi-disciplinary approach that draws upon her ancestral lineage. Inspired by her roots, she brings together elements of weaving, carving, and ceramics, each tactile medium serving as a gateway to deeper connection with the physical world. Through these ancient crafts, she finds herself in communion with the tangible aspects of existence, grounding her ethereal visions in the tangible reality of the present moment.
At the core of Wilder’s work lies a profound exploration of the interconnectedness between women and nature. Through her art, she endeavors to forge a symbiotic relationship between the human experience and the natural world, exploring themes of nurturing, resilience, and transformation. Each brushstroke, each carved line, is imbued with the essence of Wilder’s own journey, a testament to the power of creativity to bridge the divide between what is seen and what is felt.
From the depths of scientific inquiry to the heights of creative expression, she has charted a course that transcends boundaries, weaving together the threads of her past, present, and future into a vibrant tapestry of discovery. Through her art, Wilder invites us to journey alongside her, to explore the depths of our own humanity and the boundless beauty of the world that surrounds us.
