Chester Sears ( Stone as art ) master stonemason.
Born an raised in Perth, I completed an apprenticeship in bricklaying and worked in the cottage industry for, Plunkett homes before moving to Margaret River in 1982.
After visiting Tomo at his stone house (The only local stonemason at the time )
I started my journey with stone, picking up stone jobs at any opportunity and started building my own stone house.
My stone art developed from wast chips of rock when dressing a rock ( preparing) a rock to be laid ( there is generally a lot of chips)
I started making limesand and cement boarders then cementing the chips in to make a stone panel I call them Zen plaques.
These sold well in the Margaret River gallery, this led to many new ideas with a quest to pick up small to tiny stones anywhere ( Donnybrook ,Austria, Cooper peedy, W. A Goldfields.
I also started incorporating drift plastic off the beach for more colour and a beachie look.
I can build almost anything in stone from very small spheres,( which are my pride of achievement) to large spheres urn shapes and much more.
I also Paint , Draw, Sculpt.
