Jewellery shines at Margaret River Region Open Studios

Among the 155 participating artists are eight jewellers whose work reflects a diverse range of techniques, materials and inspirations.

Jeannie Carroll works primarily with solid gold and ethically sourced gemstones, including Australian-mined sapphires and opals from small family-run operations.

“During Open Studios, visitors are invited into my working jewellery space — an eclectic, lived-in studio filled with tools, books, plants and pieces in various stages of
making,” Jeannie said.

Francois and Nicholas Payet will open their Margaret River gallery, showcasing jewellery inspired by nature.

“Our work is based on nature — perhaps a battered piece of coral tumbled in the ocean for years, beautiful metals and gemstones in a rainbow of colours, as well as pearls,” Nicholas said.

Evelyn Henschke combines traditional goldsmithing techniques with Bohemian glass bead winding to create unique jewellery pieces. “My main tool is a traditional Bohemian lamp fire I found in the cellar of retired glass workers. The molten glass can be coaxed, manipulated and twisted into shape, creating beautiful results,” she said.

Renowned artist John Miller has handcrafted gold and silver jewellery for more than 50 years and is recognised as one of Australia’s most respected creative jewellers.

Dawid Brzezinski, founder of Mirandum Jewellery in Dunsborough, creates contemporary jewellery shaped through an intuitive process.

“Each piece is shaped through an intuitive process, where form follows feeling rather
than rules, resulting in exclusive works that feel natural, balanced and deeply personal,” Dawid said.

Emma Cotton creates bespoke jewellery from her Margaret River home studio, inspired by the environment and the raw materials she works with. “I make wearable pieces of
art inspired by my love of the environment and the raw materials I work with,” Emma said.

Yallingup artist John Shafran draws inspiration from local flora and fauna to create jewellery, timber woodcraft and artworks. “I have integrated technical skills learned in my earlier career with my creative side, turning what was once a hobby into an all-
consuming passion,” John said.
