Celebrating the quiet magic woven into everyday life, I paint joyful watercolours that transform simple, often overlooked moments into evocative visual stories. I like to think of myself as a contemporary narrative impressionist.
Each work begins with a real moment: a gesture, a glance, a shaft of sunlight on a street corner or the easy rhythm of coastal life. Using simplified forms, loose lines and heightened colours, I aim to โ€œholdโ€ the moment just long enough for viewers to step inside, wander around and invent their own version of events.
Watercolour is my primary medium because it mirrors the way I see these moments - delicate, luminous and full of possibility. It demands both control and surrender: meticulous planning balanced by spontaneity. This tension is essential to the vitality of the work, allowing for softness, movement and the unexpected accidents that often bring a painting to life.
My artistic journey began with a deep love of comics, illustration and storytelling. Years spent running a fumetteria (comic shop) in Italy nurtured my fascination with characters and scenes that feel like frames from a larger tale. That influence still lives in my work today: figures that feel mid-conversation, streets that seem to hum with life, and compositions that hint at what happened just before - or what might happen next.
Since moving to Australia in 2013, my practice has evolved to weave together my two homes, allowing me to explore themes of belonging, nostalgia and everyday joy. Whether the subject is a bustling Italian mercato or a quiet beach scene, I aim to evoke warmth, humour and a sense of connection.
During Margaret River Region Open Studios, my space becomes an extension of this storytelling process. Visitors are welcome to see works in progress, ask questions about techniques and materials, and discover how a fleeting impression becomes a finished painting. I hope they leave not only with an appreciation for watercolour, but also with a renewed sense of wonder for the small, beautiful moments that fill their own lives.
