Kiandra Buchanan is an Australian artist, originally from Naarm/Melbourne and now based in Wadandi Boodja/Margaret River. With training in multidisciplinary Fine Arts, she’s since found her rhythm in painting using still life to play with light, form, and time.
The work sits somewhere between what you see and what you feel. Painted Alla Prima (wet-on-wet), each piece is a direct, responsive moment where translucent and opaque layers meet, shift, and settle. It’s a process that keeps things alive, capturing the fleeting beauty of everyday objects and quiet scenes. Kiandra’s compositions are open and slightly off-centre, often bathed in soft, changing light. With a muted palette and painterly textures, her work invites you to slow down and notice the intimate details we usually pass by.
Her work has been shown in exhibitions across Australia, and she’s been featured in Inside Out Magazine’s Affordable Art Guide and The Design Files as an exciting emerging voice.
For Margaret River Region Open Studios Kiandra is excited to share a new body of work offering a glimpse into her process, her inspirations, and the moments that continue to shape her practice.
