I have been curious and engaged with a wide range of art throughout my life, but have only explored and discovered a love of ceramics and pottery relatively recently. I find ceramics to be the ideal balance between creativity and science. I love that pottery creates art that is functional for use in everyday life. To drink tea daily from a hand-crafted mug is quite magical.
Having grown up in the region with an outdoors loving family, I have always been immersed in the beauty of the area and fascinated with interpreting and recording the physical environment. I find constant inspiration in the surrounding natural space in which I live. I both hand build and throw on the wheel and enjoy the contrast in the two methods of production. I produce my own glazes and have recently been incorporating locally sourced materials, such as wood ash from different local species, and wild clay.
Ceramics and pottery provide an endless journey of exploration and adventure, combining art and science, whilst drawing inspiration from the surrounding natural environment in which I live and work.
