As a Ceramic Artist, my work is explorative, diverse and playful. Using natural and wild clay slips, underglaze and glazes in a variety of ways, many interesting collections emerge from season to season.
By exploring the role of Ceramics as both functional and artistic, I am finding exciting opportunities to extend and elaborate many of my ideas into collections which span various forms.
Inspired primarily by nature, my work has evolved to include sculpting 3 dimensional forms and developing ideas for wall art through the Ceramic Medium.
Coming from over a decade of working as a building designer, the urge to incorporate both functionality and a beautiful aesthetic also continues. A large body of my work remains functional, with the idea that beautiful, textural pieces can enhance everyday moments, and help to inform the larger format art works I make, both wall-mounted and sculptural.
Much of my work uses the sgraffito method, though I am often testing boundaries of what is possible with this technique, and enjoy teaching the method to students year-round.
This year’s Collection is expected to include elegant Serve Ware, Vessels, Vases, Wall Art, Sculptures and an extensive range of decorative cups and mugs.
A collection to include a range of beautiful new hues has been emerging this year, with a focus on organic forms and simple surface patterns to highlight the clay medium’s exceptional qualities.
Usually Trading as 'River Ceramics' a comprehensive overview of my work and process videos can best be seen on Instagram.
