My work is a celebration of marine life and an ode to encounters in the wild.
I paint using bright block colours and take great care in distilling both the forms and markings of each species I represent. All of my paintings are created at 1:1 scale in order to retain a tangible sense of size. This is my departure from our now ubiquitous viewing of small images on screens and a reminder of real world wonder, beauty and awe.
The work presents the vast scale of some creatures and the intricate small-scale wonder of others. The emblematic mode harnesses the language of warning signs and speaks to the threatened status of each species: precious rarities to treasure and protect.
My artworks are also available in the form of limited edition fine art prints. Each one is signed and annotated with a percentage, which notes the print size in relation to the life-size original. I continue to donate 1% of every sale toward a global effort to protect 30% of world oceans by 2030.
Visit me in my Cowaramup studio for the first time this year after I was out on location last year painting a humpback whale at Shelter Brewing, Busselton.
During this year's open studios I'll be working towards my upcoming solo exhibition SWIM at Kamilė Gallery, Perth, set to open 27 October - 17 November 2023. Take a behind the scenes look at how I make the work and look out for special events. Collaborating with marine scientists and hosting educational workshops has become an important part of my practice and something I will continue to develop at this year’s event.

SWIM solo exhibition opening, KAMILĖ GALLERY, Perth CBD.

Come and see the exhibition that I will be working towards during this year's open studios. The theme 'SWIM' celebrates the magical world of ocean creatures that we can access in WA simply by going for a swim, a snorkel or a dive. This is a free event and if you live in the city you should come! Kamilė Gallery is in a beautiful spot, located within the State Buildings on Cathedral Square in Perth CBD. There are several bars and restaurants located within the building, which all make for a great night out. On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th I will be hosting a free tour for kids. This is in conjunction with Scribblers Festival, which is taking place in Cathedral Square and several other locations throughout the school holidays.
