It seems I'm constantly thinking about a potential creative process or planning an artwork or problem solving a current piece on the go. Life as an artist is not necessarily exhausting but always mentally busy!
I am based in the southwest of Western Australia and work from my home-based art studio.
I create art by drawing and printmaking and my penchant for highly detailed works are my hallmark.
My favoured drawing tool is a 2B pencil while I work across multiple printmaking techniques including linocut, drypoint, collagraph and cyanotype.
I’ve always lived close to the ocean and have been here, in the southwest, since my early adult life. These ocean and bushland environments inspire my creativity as they also benefit my mental and spiritual wellbeing.... all needed for an optimal creative journey.
My artworks often begin with drawings (or my photos) of ‘snippets of a scene’ or maybe a close-up of a plant.
Other works are imaginative, sparked by something I’ve heard or read or observed.
I enjoy exploring and experimenting with different techniques and so the broad scope, that printmaking offers, suits me very much.
For me, printmaking is a true art/craft. The physicality, the mathematics, the technical challenges, the tools and equipment, the level of detail I can achieve … all suit my hands-on, problem-solving personality.
Then to balance all that intensity... that peacefulness I gain in the slow pace of carving lino or as I ‘disappear’ into a drawing is the jewel in my artistic life.
I enjoy creating art that is imaginatively open ended, encouraging the viewer’s own imagination to spark, interpret and continue the visual story in a very personal way.
My art often makes me smile and I’m very much rewarded when viewers are smiling too.
